Mbappe stars as Real Madrid thrash Monaco in Champions League

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid dismantled Monaco 6-1 at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, January 20, giving the Spanish side a major boost in its quest to finish in the top eight of the Champions League league phase. Mbappe opened the scoring after five minutes with a clinical finish from Fede Valverde’s through ball, then doubled his tally 20 minutes later to make it 2-0 at halftime.

Franco Mastantuono added a third for Madrid early in the second half before Thilo Kehrer’s own goal made it 4-0. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham completed the scoring after Jordan Teze had pulled one back for Monaco.

Other standout performances in Europe

Arsenal maintained a perfect start to their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 victory at Inter Milan. Gabriel Jesus scored twice, while Viktor Gyokeres sealed the win late. Peter Sucic’s equalizer briefly threatened Arsenal’s lead, but the Gunners held firm.

Sporting CP defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 at home, with Luis Suarez scoring both goals. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had equalized for PSG, but Suarez’s second strike secured all three points for the Portuguese side.

Bodo/Glimt stunned Manchester City 3-1 in the Arctic Circle, with Kasper Hogh scoring twice in quick succession. Rodri Hernandez’s second yellow card in the 62nd minute ended City’s comeback hopes, keeping Bodo/Glimt alive in the group race.

Key results shaping the group stages

Copenhagen’s 1-1 draw with Napoli saw Thomas Delaney sent off in the 35th minute, giving Napoli the early lead through Scott McTominay. Jordan Larsson equalized in the 72nd minute to keep Copenhagen’s playoff hopes alive.

Tottenham continued their strong home form with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, as Cristian Romero and Dominik Solanke found the net. Olympiakos beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-0, while Club Brugge cruised to a 4-1 victory at Kairat. Villarreal fell to a 2-1 defeat against Ajax, leaving the Spanish side with just one point from seven matches.
