His rise to worldwide fame began with the 2011 film The Intouchables, followed by global recognition through the Netflix series Lupin. Those successes have turned him into one of the most recognizable French-speaking actors of his generation.

Sy described his appointment as both an honor and a responsibility, highlighting the importance of unity, solidarity, and opportunity for young people. He also emphasized the symbolic power of seeing the world’s youth gather in Senegal.

A personal bond with Senegal

Sy’s connection to Senegal runs deep, with family roots that have shaped both his identity and career choices. That relationship has been reflected in film projects such as Yao and Father & Soldier, which explore African heritage and history.

During Paris 2024, he attended multiple competitions and played a ceremonial role during the judo events. He has also been outspoken in celebrating Senegal’s sporting achievements on the international stage.

As ambassador, Sy will help promote the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games across sporting, educational, and cultural platforms. The Games are expected to welcome 2,700 athletes under 18, competing in 35 sports across Dakar, Saly, and Diamniadio.
