BANGKOK — Gilas Pilipinas’ women’s basketball team wrapped up a flawless Group B performance with a commanding 92-59 victory over Singapore on Sunday, December 14, at the Nimibutr Stadium, securing its spot in the semifinals of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
The defending champions controlled the game from start to finish, breaking away in the second quarter and establishing a lead they would never relinquish. The win completed a two-game sweep in the group, placing the Filipinos atop Group B and guaranteeing a semifinal matchup against either the second-place team from Group A or the third-place team from Group B.

Dela Rosa leads balanced attack
Kacey dela Rosa once again spearheaded Gilas with 22 points and six rebounds, delivering the performance needed to maintain the team’s dominance in group play.
Four other players finished in double figures: Sarah Heyn contributed 14 points, three rebounds, and three assists; Sophia Dignadice added 12 points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals; while captain Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos chipped in 10 points apiece.
Gilas ran off 13 consecutive points late in the second quarter to take a 41-28 halftime lead and never looked back, demonstrating depth and cohesion across its roster.
Semifinals in sight
Coach Patrick Aquino acknowledged the challenge that lies ahead, noting potential matchups against strong teams from Group A, including host Thailand and Indonesia.
“It’s either Indonesia or Thailand. Both teams are very strong and both teams are contenders. And if we pass those teams, siyempre makukuha natin ‘yung gold,” Aquino said.
Gilas began its campaign with a come-from-behind 76-67 win over Malaysia last Saturday and will now look to continue its streak in the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, with the medal matches set the following day.
