The Philippine golf team arrives in Pattaya, Thailand, with high hopes for medal success at the 33rd SEA Games. Competing at the Siam Country Club, the women’s team is led by Rianne Malixi alongside Junia Gabasa and Grace Quinanilla, while the men’s team features Chris Remata, Rolando Bregente, Perry Bucay, and Shinichi Suzuki.

Malixi brings momentum after winning the US Girls Junior and US Women’s Amateur last year and placing second at the World Amateur Team Championship in Singapore. Her leadership is expected to guide the women’s squad in both individual and team competitions.

Strong preparation fuels confidence

The men’s team enters the SEA Games riding a Putra Cup victory in November, where they defeated host Thailand at Luisita Golf and Country Club. National Golf Association president Bones Floro emphasized the teams’ chemistry, experience, and physical readiness, expressing confidence that both squads can achieve podium finishes.

Past SEA Games performances also inspire the delegation, with Malixi previously earning a bronze in the 2021 team event and the men’s squad building on recent international victories.

Aiming to reclaim golf gold for the Philippines

The last SEA Games golf gold for the Philippines came in 2019 when Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go swept the individual and team events. With the current squads, the country aims to return to the top of the podium in both categories.
