Islay Bomogao leads Philippine Muay team at SEA Games in Bangkok

Islay Bomogao is on a roll this year, winning multiple matches in her professional career with ONE Championship in Singapore. As the No. 1 ranked -45kg fighter in the country, she now leads the Philippine Muay Thai contingent at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok.

Even with her career success, Bomogao is staying focused and cautious. She emphasized that every opponent is strong in this biennial meet. “For sure, solid po lahat. This is a big event kaya each country is putting forward their best and most experienced athletes,” she said.

She is not singling out any one opponent. “Anyone can be tough depending on the day. So I’m just focused on myself and making sure I’m ready for whoever I face,” Bomogao added. Her mindset reflects the discipline and preparation required at this level.

Bomogao is focused and ready — anyone could be a tough opponent, but the Philippines is aiming for the top.

SEA Games experience and recent bouts

Bomogao last fought in late November at Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand, the same venue for the SEA Games Muay competition. She knocked out Thailand’s Ploychompoo PU Phabai in the second round of an atomweight bout, proving her readiness for the regional competition.

Her SEA Games experience and recent international fights give her confidence. Bomogao’s preparation combines tactical skill with physical conditioning to maintain her edge against the competition.

Philippine Muay contingent aims for medals

The Philippine Muay team includes Rudzma Abubakar, Kim Ryan Asense, Mark Jeremy Balmoris, Mathew Blane Comicho, Eunicka Kaye Costales, Phillip Delarmino, Ejay Galendez, Tyron Jamborillo, Ariel Lee Lampacan, Alyssa Kylie Mallari, Floryvic Montero, Jan Brix Ramiscal, and LJ Rafael Yasay.
