Brazil and Portugal imposed their class and punched their tickets to the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup semifinals after scoring emphatic quarterfinal victories Tuesday night, December 2, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

World No. 1 Brazil dismantled Japan, 6-1, behind another brilliant performance from superstar Emilly, while No. 3 Portugal crushed Italy, 7-2, to join the South American powerhouse in the last four of the tournament supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Football Federation.

Emilly, widely regarded as the best player in the sport, delivered a hat trick to lead Brazil against the Asian champions. Ana Luiza, Debora Vanin and Luana added to the tally as the Group D winner made quick work of Japan, which only got on the board after a late own goal by Julia.

Brazil sets clash with powerhouse Spain

The victory propelled Brazil into a semifinal showdown with Spain, the world No. 2 team and Group B ruler. Spain earned its place in the final four after a commanding 6-1 win over Morocco in Monday’s quarterfinal action.

The matchup sets the stage for a high-stakes meeting between the two strongest teams in the competition, with both seeking to secure a title berth on Sunday.

Portugal rolls behind Moreira’s firepower

Portugal also advanced in convincing fashion, riding a hat trick from Lidia Moreira to eliminate Italy. Moreira scored in the sixth, 21st and 35th minutes to pace the Group C champion, while Janice Silva added a brace. Carolina Pedreira opened the scoring early before Kika sealed the rout in the 28th minute.
