The FIFA Futsal World Cup quarterfinals fire off at the PhilSports Arena on Monday, December 1, as eight teams vie for spots in the semifinals.

Argentina, ranked sixth in the world, tops Group A after dominant wins over the Philippines (5-1) and two other opponents. The South American powerhouse faces Colombia, the eighth-ranked runner-up from Group B, in a high-stakes 6 p.m. clash.

Colombia earned six points from two wins and a loss in the group stage, setting the stage for a tough test against the South Americans. The winner moves on to the semifinals on Friday.

Later, reigning Euro champions Spain, ranked second globally, take on Africa’s titlists Morocco at 8 p.m. Spain topped Group B with a perfect record, while Morocco claimed Group A’s second spot with hard-fought victories over the Filipina5 (3-2) and Poland (1-0).

Brazil, Portugal eye Final Four

The other quarterfinals are set for Tuesday, with world No. 1 Brazil meeting Asian ruler Japan. Brazil dominated Group D without a loss, while Japan finished second in Group C.

Portugal, Group C’s top seed, clashes with Italy, runner-up from Group D, in the remaining quarterfinal. Both matches promise high-octane futsal action, with the victors joining the semifinals later this week.

The 16-nation tournament, backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Football Federation, continues to showcase world-class futsal on the blue court at the PhilSports Arena.
