University of Santo Tomas-Gameville kept its bronze medal hopes alive by defeating ProVolley Academy, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16, on Tuesday, November 25, in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference 2025 at the Ynares Center Montalban.
Already out of championship contention, the Golden Spikers bounced back from three consecutive losses to start the round-robin semifinals. The win ensured their continued fight for bronze while eliminating the Australian squad from medal contention.
“Learning process pa rin kasi kailangan ma-form namin ‘yung mga bata para sa UAAP. So itong mga last game namin for Criss Cross, kailangan makuha ng mga bata ‘yung confidence nila towards the game,” said UST-Gameville assistant coach Benjamin Mape.

Golden Spikers display attacking prowess
Gboy Dela Vega led an all-around effort, posting 17 points—all from attacks—along with 17 excellent receptions and 11 excellent digs. Joshua Avila orchestrated the offense with 19 excellent sets, helping the team fire 52 attacks, nearly double ProVolley Academy’s 27.
John Catinsag contributed nine points with five attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while Kenneth Salvador added eight markers. UST-Gameville dominated at the net and maintained composure throughout the one-hour, 13-minute match.
Looking ahead in the bronze medal race
Despite the win, UST-Gameville’s fate depends on other results. A Criss Cross victory over Savouge later in the day would end their bronze medal bid. The Golden Spikers will next face Criss Cross on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
ProVolley Academy dropped its fourth straight match, with team leaders Samuel Hansen and Isaac Relova scoring 10 points each. Jude Amper added five points alongside 10 excellent receptions and five excellent digs. The Australian squad hopes to conclude their campaign against defending champion Cignal on Thursday at 3 p.m.
