Haruka Misugi made an emphatic introduction to Filipino fans by earning the Spikers’ Turf Press Corps Player of the Week recognition following two impactful outings for Japanese guest team Kindai University. The young opposite hitter immediately showcased his all-around skill, powering Kindai to back-to-back wins to open the Invitational Conference semifinal round.
Misugi first delivered 16 points in Kindai’s commanding sweep of ProVolley Academy of Australia at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. His strong debut set the tone for the squad’s campaign and highlighted the Japanese side’s firepower in the historic curtain-raiser at the iconic venue.
He then produced an even more complete performance the following day, leading Kindai to a four-set upset of previously unbeaten Criss Cross at the FilOil EcoOil Centre. Misugi filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 17 receptions, and seven digs, ending Criss Cross’ eight-match run and lifting Kindai into a share of the semifinal lead.

Misugi becomes first guest player to win weekly honor
The 20-year-old’s consistent brilliance earned him the penultimate Player of the Week award presented by Pilipinas Live, becoming the first-ever import to receive the citation. Reporters from print and online outlets covering the league selected him over fellow top performers Mark Calado, Jude Garcia, and Jau Umandal.
Misugi said he was grateful for the chance to compete in front of Filipino fans, describing the atmosphere and level of play as a meaningful challenge. His impact has further strengthened Kindai’s semifinals push as the team eyes another win against University of Santo Tomas–Gameville in its next outing.
