Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was arrested on an attempted murder charge connected to a shooting after a celebrity boxing event in Miami, police said Thursday via AP News. Brown, 37, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Dubai and transported to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is being held while awaiting extradition to Florida.
Authorities have not clarified why Brown was taken to New Jersey first or how long he had been overseas. Social media posts in recent months showed Brown spending time in Dubai before his arrest.

Police say Brown fired shots after post-fight altercation
The arrest warrant outlines a confrontation on May 16, when Brown allegedly seized a firearm from a security staffer after a physical fight and shot twice at a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu. Investigators reported that one bullet grazed the victim’s neck.
Court documents did not specify whether Brown has legal representation, and no date has been set for his transfer to Miami. A second-degree attempted murder conviction in Florida carries a potential 15-year prison term and a $10,000 fine.
Former NFL star’s career overshadowed by legal issues
Brown spent 12 seasons in the NFL and earned All-Pro honors, most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers before finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. He recorded 928 receptions, over 12,000 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns.
His playing legacy has been clouded by multiple legal matters, including domestic violence allegations, child support disputes and a battery incident involving a moving truck driver. Brown’s NFL run effectively ended after he exited a Buccaneers game in 2021 by removing his gear and jogging off the field, leading to his release.
