UST-Gameville regained its winning rhythm in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference after defeating the VNS Griffins, 25-19, 25-19, 26-28, 25-22, on Sunday, November 2, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre. The Golden Spikers improved to 2-1 and pulled themselves back into the thick of the semifinal race.
UST-Gameville started strong with commanding wins in the first two sets before VNS capitalized on errors to extend the match. But the Golden Spikers refused to let momentum slip, regrouping in the fourth set and taking full control to secure the bounce-back result after a previous four-set loss.

Team firepower and serve-pressure system deliver
Despite giving up 34 errors under their aggressive serving strategy, UST-Gameville leaned on overpowering net production and disciplined floor defense. The team fired 74 kills to VNS’ 44, showcasing depth and consistent striking from the wings and middle, while also forming a tight defensive wall that slowed down VNS’ attacks.
The system demanded risk and resilience, and UST-Gameville found both in critical stretches, particularly in the decisive fourth where key attackers stepped up and bench support made an impact.
Golden Spikers tighten group standings
The win moved UST-Gameville into a tie for third place alongside Savage Spin Doctors and Alpha Insurance Protectors, heightening the intensity of the semifinal race. The squad now turns its attention to a crucial showdown against Alpha Insurance on Friday at the Paco Arena.
VNS, meanwhile, dropped to 0-3 and will look to break through when it faces Savouge next, hoping to finally shake off its early-tournament struggles.
