The stage is set for a fierce clash of power and precision as the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference kicks off on Oct. 27 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan. Elite local squads and two foreign guest teams will compete in a blockbuster tournament that promises world-class volleyball action.

This year’s competition carries heightened excitement. The Philippine men’s national team made history at the recent World Championships by reaching the knockout rounds for the first time. The Invitational aims to build on that momentum, showcasing the sport’s growing popularity and international appeal.

Cignal leads stacked 10-team cast

Defending champion Cignal headlines a competitive field that includes Criss Cross, Savouge, PGJC-Navy, VNS, and Alpha Insurance. Two guest squads — Kindai University of Japan and ProVolley Academy of Australia — will join the semifinal phase. Their participation adds a global dimension and raises the tournament’s level of play.

The collegiate ranks are represented by Far Eastern U–DN Steel, the reigning V-League Collegiate Challenge champion. UST–Gameville replaces De La Salle, which withdrew due to academic commitments.

“We always call the Spikers’ Turf our happy place. Every time it starts, it’s a happy place for all of us,” tournament director Mozzy Ravena said during the press conference at Discovery Suites. “There’s been a resurgence of interest in men’s volleyball, and we’re grateful for the growth. My heart is full, but there’s still room to grow.”

High-stakes format and surging national momentum

Eight local teams will play a single round-robin. The top four will advance to the semifinals, where they will be joined by the two guest squads. Another round-robin will determine the top two teams that will clash in a one-game championship match. The third- and fourth-ranked semifinalists will compete for bronze.

The timing of the tournament is ideal. It follows the spectacular run of Alas Pilipinas Men’s, led by Bryan Bagunas, at the World Championships. That breakthrough generated unprecedented interest in the sport.

“There is great momentum coming from the exploits of Alas Pilipinas,” said Cignal TV Sports Content head Mico Halili. “We’ll build on that and provide the best coverage possible for Spikers’ Turf.”
