Marlee Smith reminded everyone of her value as Choco Mucho’s top gun, powering the Flying Titans to a 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 sweep of Nxled on Tuesday, October 21, night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Still searching for full rhythm early in the PVL Reinforced Conference, Smith showed steady improvement in just her second game back. Her 20-point output, matching her debut performance, anchored a crucial bounce-back win that kept Choco Mucho inside the Top 3 of Pool A with a 2-1 record.
The victory also restored momentum for coach Dante Alinsunurin’s squad after falling to powerhouse PLDT. It was a needed recovery for a team still adjusting to rotations and timing with Smith back in the mix.

Smith regains her edge when it matters most
Smith admitted she struggled at first but said composure made the difference. “It’s not gonna go perfect every time,” she said. “But I’m always fighting for my team. Win or lose, we stay together.”
That mindset showed in the tense third set. Down 18-20, Choco Mucho turned to Smith, who re-entered and immediately scored back-to-back hits to turn the game around. She then drilled another kill to push her team to match point before Nxled’s final challenge was denied.
“Unti-unti kaming nagkaka-rhythm,” said Alinsunurin. “We’re still adjusting with the setter and Smith, but we found our groove and got the win.”

Flying Titans show team balance
While Smith starred, Choco Mucho’s support crew stepped up. Isa Molde fired 11 points, while Tia Andaya orchestrated with precision—posting 15 excellent sets and contributing eight points and three blocks.
Middle blockers Lorraine Pecaña and Cherry Nunag chipped in five points apiece as the Titans out-blocked Nxled, 12-4, while matching their 40-attack total.
“Everybody did their part,” Smith said. “We put in the work in practice, and it showed tonight.”
Nxled, despite another 20-point effort from Spanish import Paola Martinez, remained winless at 0-3. Lyann de Guzman scored nine, while Chiara Permentilla and Krich Macaslang added eight and four, respectively. Setter Jaja Maraguinot tallied 15 excellent sets but couldn’t break Choco Mucho’s disciplined defense.
