Shaina Nitura fired 30 points as Adamson University rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Arellano University, 22-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-20, and reach the 2025 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge Finals on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons, backed by Nitura, Frances Mordi, and Abby Segui, swept their best-of-three semifinal series for their second finals appearance since finishing runner-up in 2022. Adamson enters the championship round undefeated in nine matches, dropping only four sets throughout the tournament organized by Sports Vision.
Nitura leads balanced attack
Nitura’s 30-point explosion came on 29 attacks and one block, complemented by nine digs and nine receptions. Mordi added 17 points and delivered 14 digs and 10 receptions, while Segui chipped in 12 markers to sustain Adamson’s balanced scoring.
Head coach JP Yude praised his squad’s resilience after a slow start. “I’m very happy na kahit na-down kami ng first set, they came back stronger sa second and third set. Fourth set medyo dumikit pero I know naman kaya nilang mag-deliver hanggang matapos yung laro,” Yude said.
Finals berth secured
Tied at 16-all in the fourth set, Adamson surged ahead with a decisive 5-2 run, highlighted by Mordi’s block on Crisanta Servidad. Arellano stayed within reach at 22-20, but consecutive hits from Nitura and a running attack by Eloi Dote sealed the one-hour, 45-minute victory.
Adamson now awaits the winner of the other semifinal between Far Eastern University and College of Saint Benilde. The best-of-three finals begin Monday, October 6, at the same venue. Arellano will compete in the bronze medal match against the losing team from the other semifinal.
Servidad finished with 15 points to lead the Lady Chiefs, while Sam Tiratira had 11, including six blocks.
