Emirates Airline has welcomed the ICC’s first-ever all-women officiating panel ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, a milestone moment for gender equity in cricket.
The 18-member team of 14 umpires and four referees, representing 10 countries, was received at the airline’s Dubai headquarters before departing for India and Sri Lanka, where the tournament runs from September 30 to November 2. This edition marks the first time the Women’s 50-over World Cup will be presided over entirely by female match officials.
Boutros Boutros, Emirates’ executive vice president for corporate communications, marketing and brand, said the milestone highlights the role of sport in driving inclusivity. “As the Official Airline Partner of the ICC, Emirates is proud to support the first all-women team of match officials who will preside over the matches in this important tournament. Not only is it a great platform to engage with fans through the passion for sports, but the event also stands as an ode to gender equity, celebrating inclusivity and equal opportunity on and off the field,” he said.
A milestone for women in cricket officiating
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has been staged 12 times since its inception, but this year’s edition is the first to be overseen entirely by women officials. The panel represents a new era for cricket, ensuring women play central roles not only on the pitch as athletes but also in decision-making roles that shape the game.
The landmark moment comes as women’s cricket continues to grow in visibility and professionalism, with the World Cup expected to draw record audiences across India and beyond.
Emirates’ long-standing partnership with ICC
Emirates has been a global partner of the ICC for more than three decades, with its branding featured on the official kits of elite umpires and referees. The airline also transports officials to tournaments worldwide and supports initiatives such as the ICC 100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme, which aims to prepare the next generation of female leaders in cricket.
Through the partnership, Emirates continues to use sport as a platform to promote gender equity and inclusivity, while strengthening its global brand presence at major events including the ICC Men’s and Women’s World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy and World Test Championship Final.
