Chinese Taipei secured a commanding 106-82 win over the Philippines in Group B action of the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025, Sunday, August 31, at the Buyant Ukhaa Sport Complex.
The victory was powered by a standout performance from Wang I-Le, who tallied 24 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals, finishing with an efficiency rating of 30—all in just 20 minutes and without committing a turnover.
Wang I-Le leads balanced attack
Supporting Wang’s effort were Hsiao Cheng-Che with 13 points and Lu Shu-Wei adding 10, while Pan Chen-Wu, Chen Hung-Yu, Wang Jia-Cheng, and Chen Guan-Jie all contributed at least 8 points. Chinese Taipei started strong with a 20-10 first quarter and pulled away in the middle quarters, scoring 59 points to take an 87-62 lead entering the final 10 minutes.
Gilas Youth struggled to keep pace offensively, with Prince Carino (23 points) and Jeremiah Antolin (11 points) as the only Filipino players reaching double figures. The team’s lack of scoring options highlighted the challenges they faced against a balanced and efficient Chinese Taipei squad.
Looking ahead, Chinese Taipei will face New Zealand on Monday, September 1, at 16:30 local time at the MBank Arena. The winner will take the solo lead in Pool B and secure a step closer to a direct quarterfinal berth. The Philippines, meanwhile, will face Indonesia at 19:00 in a crucial Southeast Asian duel.
