Adamson University made quick work of Mapua University, 25-15, 25-23, 25-11, to claim the first semifinal spot in the 2025 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge Sunday morning at Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
Fresh off a sweep of Arellano University the previous day, the Lady Falcons relied on standout performances from Shaina Nitura, Abby Segui, and Fhei Sagaysay to survive a tight second set and extend their winning streak to five games in the eight-team tournament organized by Sports Vision.
Nitura, the UAAP Season 87 Rookie of the Year, tallied 18 points on 16 attacks, added two blocks, and contributed five excellent digs. Segui chipped in 12 points on 11 attacks, while Sagaysay orchestrated the offense with 20 excellent sets along with three points. With the victory, Adamson remained unbeaten at 5-0 and cemented its hold on first place.
Lady Falcons’ teamwork shines in second set turnaround
After dropping the first few points of the second set, Adamson responded at the perfect time. A decisive 4-0 run — fueled by three Mordi hits and an attack error from Freighanne Garcia — turned a 21-23 deficit into a pivotal two-sets-to-none lead.
The momentum carried into the third frame, where a backrow hit by Nitura and a down-the-line kill from Red Bascon opened a 16-6 advantage, giving Adamson a 10-point cushion. Segui then sparked a four-point run with a combination of crosscourt and offspeed hits, officially sealing the win and the Lady Falcons’ semifinal berth.
Lhouriz Tuddao and Princess Dote contributed seven points each, rounding out a well-balanced team performance.
Adamson will aim to maintain its perfect record when they face the Colegio San Juan de Letran Lady Knights on Wednesday, September 3, at the same Manila venue. Judiel Nitura, Shaina’s older sister, will be a key player for Letran.
Meanwhile, Mapua, which had a breakthrough win over Ateneo de Manila University the day prior, was eliminated from semifinal contention after dropping to 1-5. Raissa Ricablanca led Mapua with 10 points, while team captain Alyanna Ong added seven.
