The NBA and FIBA have announced the top 60 high-school-age boys and girls from 21 African countries who will participate in the 21st Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa camp. Taking place at Petit Stade and BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, from August 23–26, this marks the first time the global basketball development program will be hosted in East Africa. Previous camps were held in Angola, Egypt, Senegal, and South Africa.

Campers, including two NBA Academy Africa prospects, will be led by basketball legends and NBA coaches. Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings, 1996–97 NBA All-Rookie Second Team member Kerry Kittles, and 2005–06 NBA All-Rookie Second Team member Marvin Williams will coach alongside Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee, Indiana Pacers assistant coach Lloyd Pierce, and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori.

Directors of the camp include Luca Desta (Utah Jazz VP of Global Scouting), Patrick Engelbrecht (Toronto Raptors Director of Global Scouting & International Affairs), Patrick Hunt (World Association of Basketball Coaches President), and Prosper Karangwa (Philadelphia 76ers VP of Player Personnel). Sports performance coaches Jonathan Lee (Raptors) and Jasen Powell (LA Clippers) will oversee athletic development sessions.

Skills, competition, and leadership development

Campers will take part in drills covering movement efficiency, offensive and defensive skills, three-point contests, and 5-on-5 games. Life-skills and leadership sessions will complement on-court training. Awards on the final day will honor the Kim Bohuny Camp MVP, Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award, B.J. Johnson Most Improved Player Award, Three-Point Champion, and Defensive MVP for both male and female participants.

Players and coaches will participate in community initiatives, including a wheelchair basketball clinic with the Rwandan Basketball Federation (FERWABA) and a clinic for 100 elderly women with Shooting Touch on August 24. Female campers will also attend a coaching clinic and the Her Time to Play leadership workshop on August 25.

BWB Africa 2025 is supported by Nike, outfitting participants with apparel and footwear. Since 2001, BWB has reached over 4,600 participants from 144 countries, with 142 former campers drafted into the NBA or WNBA. Fourteen former BWB Africa campers, including Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, and Khaman Maluach, have entered the NBA/WNBA, while 72 alumni have appeared in Basketball Africa League (BAL) rosters.
