De La Salle University extended its winning streak to four games in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge, securing the solo lead after defeating Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, on Saturday, August 23, at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.

Middle blocker Issa Ousseini led the Green Spikers with 19 points built on 10 attacks, eight blocks, and a service ace. But it was Chris Hernandez who proved to be the difference-maker. Coming off the bench, Hernandez fired 22 points, including 17 from attacks, and added three blocks, two aces, 10 digs, and 12 excellent receptions in a stellar all-around performance.

Hernandez powers La Salle’s title bid

Hernandez’s momentum-shifting plays gave the Green Spikers the edge in the closing sets. Head coach Jose Roque expressed satisfaction with the team’s form but acknowledged that consistency and focus will be crucial in the upcoming stretch of games. La Salle (4-0) will begin the final phase of the eliminations against University of Santo Tomas (3-1) on Tuesday at noon.

The Knights displayed resilience, even taking the third set and briefly leading in the fourth behind Chester Amborsio. However, 29 costly errors doomed their chances as La Salle responded strongly with Ousseini and Hernandez leading the way. Amborsio finished with 15 points, while Bembem Bautista and Dave Lardizabal contributed 10 and nine points, respectively. Letran (1-3) will aim to bounce back against National University (2-2) on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
