Far Eastern University averted disaster with a gritty reverse sweep over Arellano University, 23-25, 24-26, 25-9, 25-22, 15-12, to secure back-to-back wins in the V-League Collegiate Challenge 2025 on Saturday, August 23, at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
Opposite hitter-turned-middle blocker Jaz Ellarina spearheaded the Lady Tamaraws’ comeback, scoring 20 points built on 16 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace. With the win, FEU improved to 3-1, tying De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde for second place in the standings. The two teams are set to clash on Sunday at noon in Paco to break the deadlock.

Despite dropping the first two sets, the Lady Tamaraws regained momentum through their blocking adjustments. Ellarina, alongside middle blocker Mitzi Panangin, anchored FEU’s defense at the net. Panangin chipped in 17 points, while Lovely Lopez scored 10, with both combining for eight of FEU’s 13 total blocks compared to Arellano’s four.
Setter Tin Ubaldo orchestrated the offense late, leaning on Ellarina and Gerzel Petallo, who added 11 points and four aces, to seal the comeback in a two-hour and 12-minute showdown.
Arellano shows grit despite loss
Arellano kept FEU on edge with strong offensive execution. Laica Tudlasan erupted for 22 points—all from attacks—as the Lady Chiefs capitalized on their well-timed game plan early. But despite the strong start, the Lady Chiefs dropped to an even 1-1 record.
They will look to bounce back when they face Benilde on August 30 at 3 p.m., also at Paco Arena.
