Four teams from Ilocos Norte will compete in a mini volleyball tournament this Saturday, August 24, to welcome the “Set Na Natin ’To” Trophy and Mascot Tour at the newly opened SM City Laoag.
Block Builders, Laoag MVT, PSQ, and NWU are set to battle at Dap Ayan Park, showcasing local volleyball talent while highlighting one of the major lead-up activities to the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025, according to Faivo Bartolome, president of Ilocos Norte Volleyball and Ilocos Norte Sports Consultant.

SM City Laoag hosts milestone sports event
The event is a landmark occasion for SM City Laoag, which only opened in May and will now serve as the venue for its first major sports activity. Invitations were extended to Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Marcos, Vice Governor Matthew Manotoc, Laoag City Mayor James Bryan Alcid, and Vice Mayor Rey Carlos Fariñas.
Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with tournament play, capped by a formal program at 6 p.m. The Laoag stop is the second leg of the three-city Set Na Natin ’To Trophy and Mascot Tour, which kicked off in Cebu City last weekend and will conclude on August 30 in Cagayan de Oro City.
Alas Pilipinas continue training in Europe
PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara shared that Alas Pilipinas remain focused in their three-country European training camp, now in Santo Tirso, Portugal, as they complete preparations for the world championship.
Suzara also expressed relief that key players Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo have recovered from their recent injuries, ensuring that the team will be at full strength for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025, set for September 12 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and Smart Araneta Coliseum.
