CHENGDU, China — Agatha Wong, one of the Philippines’ most decorated wushu athletes, found herself in unfamiliar territory on Friday, August 8, after finishing eighth out of nine participants in the women’s taijiquan event at the 2025 World Games held at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre.
Wong scored 9.160 points in the bare hands routine, putting her second to last in the standings with one event left — the taijijian (sword routine) scheduled for 7:50 p.m. The combined results from both disciplines will determine the final medalists in the women’s taolu competition.
A five-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, Wong now hopes to bounce back with a polished performance in the sword segment to lift her overall ranking.
