Joshua “The Passion” Pacio is set to make history as he steps up in weight to challenge Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu for the ONE Flyweight MMA World Title at ONE 173: Superbon vs Noiri on November 16 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Fresh off his decisive victory over longtime rival Jarred Brooks, the 29-year-old Filipino star is eyeing rare status as a two-division World Champion in ONE Championship. If successful, he would become the first Filipino fighter to accomplish the feat.
However, standing in his way is one of the most dangerous strikers in the promotion. Wakamatsu, who captured the flyweight crown with a first-round finish of Adriano Moraes at ONE 172, will have the advantage of fighting in front of his home crowd in Tokyo.

“Yuya is not the king of the flyweight division for nothing,” said Pacio. “He’s earned his spot. He has power, speed, and I respect him. But I’m ready to represent the Philippines with pride.”
Wakamatsu prepared for fireworks in title defense
Wakamatsu, riding a four-fight win streak, is approaching his first title defense with full focus and mutual respect for his challenger. The Japanese powerhouse already holds wins over top Filipino names like Danny Kingad and Geje Eustaquio, and is looking to extend that streak against Pacio.
“Joshua Pacio is a dangerous and well-rounded fighter,” Wakamatsu said. “But I trust in my preparation. If I stick to my plan, I’ll win.”
Both fighters expect a fast, tactical, and action-packed contest, with each looking to solidify their legacy in ONE Championship.
“I believe this will be a high-level fight,” said Pacio. “We both know how to adapt, and I’m looking forward to giving the fans a show.”
