Chery Tiggo turned a shaky start into a composed finish as the Crossovers overpowered Capital1 in four sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 28-26, during the PVL On Tour stop in Montalban, Rizal. Combining youthful energy with seasoned stability, the Crossovers bounced back from a first-set loss and leaned on the brilliance of rookie Jyne Soreño and the leadership of their veteran core to clinch their first win of the tour.
Soreño leads the charge in her PVL debut
La Salle standout Jyne Soreño played beyond her years with an explosive 15-point performance, stepping up in the absence of Ara Galang and national libero Jen Nierva. Named Best Player of the Game, the lefty rookie sparked the momentum shift in the third set and provided clutch plays late in the fourth. Alongside fellow rookies Renee Lou Peñafiel and Reyann Cañete, Soreño gave the Crossovers a jolt of energy when they needed it most.
“Reset lang kami ng reset kasi alam namin kaya namin,” Soreño shared, deflecting praise to her teammates for the win.
Veteran leaders Cess Robles (17 points), Imee Hernandez (8), Shaya Adorador, and Pau Gaston stabilized the team during pressure-filled stretches, while Peñafiel added 11 points and clutch defense in the closing frame.

Capital1, now 0-3 in the PVL On Tour, pushed Chery Tiggo to the brink with tenacious defense and sharp attacks. Sydney Niego, Trisha Genesis, and Shola Alvarez kept the Solar Spikers in striking distance and nearly forced a fifth set. Niego’s hammer hit gave Capital1 set point at 25-24 in the fourth, but a block-touch score by Peñafiel followed by three straight attack errors dashed their hopes.
Alvarez led Capital1 with 13 points, followed by Genesis (12) and Niego (10). Capital1 setter Iris Tolenada had 12 excellent sets but was outshined by Chery Tiggo’s Alina Bicar, who tallied 18 and orchestrated a balanced offense.
The match also highlighted Chery Tiggo’s edge in attacks (59-50) and digs, with Robles recording nine and Peñafiel five. Libero Jhoanna Verdeflor contributed eight digs and receptions apiece.
Despite the loss, Capital1 earned the crowd’s respect with their fourth-set grit, pushing the Crossovers into a dramatic ending that capped a two-hour, three-minute battle.
