Seventy-one days ahead of the FIVB Men’s World Championship 2025, president Fabio Azevedo has already declared that the event will be a resounding success as the Philippines hosts the prestigious tournament for the first time.

“We have no doubt that the world championships here will be a remarkable success,” said Azevedo during a press conference at the Philippine Local Organizing Committee (LOC) headquarters at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Joined by Volleyball World Chief Business Officer Guido Betti, Azevedo praised the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) under president Ramon “Tats” Suzara and secretary-general Donaldo Caringal for their proven ability to host world-class events.

“In the Philippines, we will show amazing matches to the world,” Azevedo emphasized. “Our expectations are very high. It’s not the first time they’re hosting a big event. The Volleyball Nations League set the bar.”

Fan Zone praised as game-changer in global fan experience

Azevedo also credited the PNVF’s innovation in fan engagement, particularly through the Fan Zone—a post-match players-meet-fans initiative that debuted during the country’s VNL hosting.

“From the Americas to Europe and Asia, you set the tone for this amazing Fan Zone,” said Azevedo. “This kind of hospitality is what makes the Philippines special—and a vital element in this world championship.”

The FIVB chief added that the PNVF has already proven its capability and that “72 days from now, you’ll be seeing the Philippines at the center of the volleyball world.”

Suzara, who also heads the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), said the visit by Azevedo provided a boost of confidence and direction as final preparations ramp up.

The FIVB Men’s World Championship Philippines 2025 is set from September 12 to 28. It will feature an expanded 32-team format for the first time and will take place across two major venues: Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City and SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
