Petro Gazz holds off Galeries Tower in PVL On Tour thriller

Petro Gazz shook off fatigue from a grueling five-set loss the night before and summoned championship poise to sweep Galeries Tower, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24, in a high-stakes PVL On Tour showdown at the Batangas City Sports Center. The straight-sets win, though tight at every turn, revived the Angels’ hopes in Pool A of the preseason tournament.

Every set turned into a war of attrition as both teams battled for every point, eager to avoid a 0-2 start in the two-pool format. The Angels leaned on their experience to survive a late Galeries surge in the third set that nearly extended the match.

Clutch Plays Save Angels From Collapse

Down 20-23 in the third, Petro Gazz regrouped after a well-timed timeout that froze Galeries’ momentum. Nicole Tiamzon, who had gone scoreless through two sets, stepped up with a key block and crosscourt kill to help seal the game.

Tiamzon’s clutch effort was a response to a flurry from Jewel Encarnacion, who sparked Galeries with several big hits, but cracked under pressure with a crucial service error at 24-all. Tiamzon didn’t waste the chance, firing the final dagger to Zone 6 to end the match in 1 hour and 38 minutes.

Dacoron Dominates Net Play, Galeries Shows Heart

Joy Dacoron stood out for Petro Gazz with 10 points, including two blocks and three service aces, helping the Angels contain Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and neutralize Poy Erram. Myla Pablo led all scorers with 14 points, while Jonah Sabete added 10 and veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas chipped in 7.

Galeries Tower drew solid efforts from Ysa Jimenez with 13 points and Roselle Baliton with 10, while Encarnacion and rookie Jean Asis combined for 15. Asis, who shone in their opener, couldn’t find her rhythm this time as the Highrisers again faltered late just as they did against Choco Mucho.

Stat-wise, Petro Gazz edged Galeries in attacks (43-39) and aces (6-4) while committing fewer errors (20 vs 21). However, Galeries won the block battle (7-6) and setting duel, with Ivy Perez delivering 19 excellent sets to Djanel Cheng’s 16, reflecting the Highrisers’ improving chemistry.
