Patrick “Pató” Gregorio has officially been named chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), a move hailed by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino as a major step toward harmony and renewal in Philippine sports. Tolentino credited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the appointment, calling it a signal of progress and collaboration.
The announcement was confirmed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, with Gregorio becoming the 13th PSC chairman since the agency’s creation in 1990 under Republic Act 6847. He replaces Richard Bachmann, and follows Noli Eala, both of whom served under Marcos Jr.’s administration.

Longstanding Partnership in Sports
Tolentino and Gregorio have worked closely together in various sports sectors over the years. From chess, shooting, and cycling to basketball and boxing, both men have actively shaped different facets of Philippine sports. In 2018, they held leadership roles in the POC—Tolentino as chairman and Gregorio as secretary-general.
Just last year, Gregorio was appointed games-time chef de mission for the upcoming Paris Olympics after the Department of the Interior and Local Government secretary stepped down from the role. Their synergy continued with this year’s “Great Revival” of the Tour of Luzon, a project between PhilCycling and DuckWorld PH that garnered praise from the sports community.
Tolentino expressed hope that Gregorio’s leadership will lead to stronger cooperation between the PSC and POC, stating, “Finally, unity. Mabuhay ang sports ng Pilipinas!”
