The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has officially declined the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) request to extend its 2024–2025 season until October 15, citing strict adherence to the FIVB Sports Calendar.
The PVL had submitted the extension request to accommodate its planned seven-province PVL On Tour and to secure International Transfer Certificates (ITCs) for select imports. However, the PNVF emphasized that such an extension violates FIVB guidelines, particularly during the designated National Team Period.
FIVB Protocol Prioritizes National Team Duties
In its response dated June 23, the PNVF pointed to Section 6.1.1.b of the FIVB Sports Regulations, which states that national teams take priority between May 16 and October 15. Club and league events during this window require special FIVB approval, which the PVL had not secured.
“Upon careful review of FIVB Sports Regulations, version as of April 11, 2025, the PNVF shall be unable to endorse or accept the proposal,” the federation noted in its letter to the PVL.
Support For National Team Momentum
The PNVF acknowledged the PVL’s goal to grow the sport by expanding its reach regionally but reiterated the importance of observing global volleyball protocols. “This is the same calendar that other professional and club leagues—such as Italy’s Lega Pallavolo and Japan’s SVLeague—observe,” it said.
Highlighting the rising momentum of the Alas Pilipinas women’s national team, the PNVF underscored the importance of maintaining discipline and protocol compliance during international windows. The national team is experiencing an upswing in the world rankings, and officials hope to continue that momentum through strict alignment with the FIVB structure.
