NBA Rising Stars invitational: Asia-pacific high school teams make it to semifinals in Singapore

The NBA Rising Stars Invitational 2025 moves into its high-stakes semifinals this weekend as elite high school teams from Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea battle for a coveted spot in Sunday’s finals. After an intense group stage, the boys’ and girls’ semifinals are set to take place Saturday at the Kallang Tennis Hub, with placement games also happening at ITE College West.

Semifinal Fixtures (28 June, Saturday):

Girls’ Division

  • Flinders College (AUS) vs Onyang Girls’ High School (KOR)

  • Kyoto Seika Gakuen Senior High School (JPN) vs Tsinghua University High School (CHN)

Boys’ Division

  • Berwick College (AUS) vs Tsinghua University High School (CHN)

  • Fukuoka Ohori Senior High School (JPN) vs Yongsan High School (KOR)

The group stage finale saw Yongsan High School edge out the Philippines’ National University – Nazareth School in a thrilling 84–79 win. Despite a fourth-quarter surge led by Shaun Lucido’s 22 points, NU’s rally fell short, allowing the South Koreans to seal a semifinal berth.

Meanwhile, Kyoto Seika Gakuen delivered the tournament’s most dominant performance so far, dismantling Hin Hua High School (MAS) 109–15, becoming the first team to hit triple digits. Over in the girls’ bracket, Tsinghua University High School (CHN) survived a scare from SMAK Penabur Cirebon (IDN), turning a first-quarter deficit into a 64–52 victory behind Zhuang Qiqi’s 21 points and Xu Anqi’s 17.

Australia’s Berwick College and Flinders College booked their spots with solid wins, while Fukuoka Ohori Senior High School (JPN) and Onyang Girls’ High School (KOR) also advanced with disciplined, high-energy play.

  • Yongsan High School (KOR) 84–79 NU-Nazareth (PHI)

  • Onyang Girls’ High School (KOR) 88–67 Oyunii Undraa High School (MNG)

  • Orkhon Aimag 1st High School (MNG) 75–73 Jubilee School (IDN)

  • Berwick College (AUS) 68–23 Nehru World School (IND)

  • Kyoto Seika Gakuen (JPN) 109–15 Hin Hua High School (MAS)

  • Hin Hua High School (SGP) 67–50 Anglo-Chinese JC (SGP)

  • Tsinghua University High School (CHN) 64–52 SMAK Penabur Cirebon (IDN)

Singaporean teams Hwa Chong Institution, Anglo-Chinese Junior College, and United World College Southeast Asia – Dover will conclude their tournament runs with placement matches at ITE College West.

The NBA Rising Stars Invitational—held from 25 to 29 June—is the league’s first regional youth tournament in Asia-Pacific. Featuring top school squads from 11 countries, the event is part of a larger basketball and entertainment festival in partnership with Sport Singapore (SportSG) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
