Kaya FC-Iloilo once again delivered in dramatic fashion, pulling off a 2-1 victory over Makati FC to clinch its second straight PFF Women’s League title Saturday, June 21, at the MOA Football Field. With the match seemingly headed for a draw that would have handed the crown to Stallion Laguna, Kaya turned to stoppage time brilliance to finish the season in stunning fashion.

Shela Cadag struck early in the sixth minute to give Kaya an initial lead and set the tone for a tight encounter. Makati FC showed resilience and equalized through Yona De La Calzada’s 81st-minute goal, a result that momentarily handed Stallion Laguna FC the title based on live standings.

Stoppage-Time Heroics Deliver the Crown

But Lyca Cuenco’s heroics in the 90+2 minute crushed Stallion’s hopes and handed Kaya the championship on superior goal difference. The win brought Kaya FC level on points with Stallion Laguna FC at 23 but pushed them over the top due to their dominant scoring differential.

Makati FC wrapped up its campaign in fourth place with 16 points, just behind debutants Capital1 who placed third with 19 points and emerged as one of the league’s surprise contenders. Despite the heartbreak, Makati FC pushed the champions to the limit in one of the most entertaining matches of the season.

Individual Awards Highlight Stellar Campaigns

Kaya FC captain Hali Long was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, recognizing her leadership and composure throughout the campaign. Mexican striker Julissa Cisneros took home the Golden Boot award after netting 13 goals, reinforcing her status as one of the league’s most lethal scorers.

The domestic football calendar continues as the PFF Women’s Cup kicks off in September, with defending cup champions Stallion Laguna looking to bounce back and challenge for silverware once again.
