
APR (Rwanda) made a bold statement in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Quarterfinals with a commanding 104–73 win over Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria), clinching their place in the BAL Semifinals. Nuni Omot led the scoring for APR with 21 points, while Aliou Diarra dominated both ends of the floor, posting a strong double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Rwandan side was highly efficient, shooting 50% from three-point range and 62.5% from the field.
Rivers Hoopers found few answers for APR’s relentless attack. Despite the loss, Madut Akec led the Nigerian side with 21 points and Raphael Putney added 12.
Defending champions stay in control
In the second quarterfinal matchup, Petro de Luanda (Angola) secured their return to the BAL Semifinals with a 95–84 victory over US Monastir (Tunisia). Kendrick Ray powered the Angolan squad with 20 points, while Yanick Moreira supported the effort with 15.
US Monastir fought to stay close, led by Patrick Hardy Jr.’s 17 points and Firas Lahyani’s 15, but couldn’t keep pace with Petro de Luanda’s balanced offense and experience.
Semifinal schedule set for July 11
The Basketball Africa League 2025 Semifinals will be played on Wednesday, July 11 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. APR will face Al Ahli Tripoli (Libya) at 4:00 p.m. CAT, while Petro de Luanda will meet Al Ittihad (Egypt) at 7:00 p.m. CAT, setting the stage for two thrilling clashes with a spot in the BAL Finals on the line.
