Islay Erika Bomogao wasted no time in making a statement during her ONE Championship main roster debut.
The 24-year-old Filipino striker delivered a spectacular first-round knockout of Spain’s Narea Rubio during their featured 103-pound Muay Thai bout at ONE Friday Fights 111 on June 6, held at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Explosive debut for Bomogao on ONE Championship stage
Bomogao, representing Team Bagsik, looked sharp and composed as she withstood Rubio’s early aggression. Rather than retreating, she calmly returned fire, waiting for a clear chance to strike—and when it came, she delivered decisively.
Midway through the round, Bomogao landed a picture-perfect straight punch to Rubio’s sternum. The delayed effect was devastating. Rubio collapsed seconds later and was unable to continue, giving Bomogao her first-ever knockout victory since joining ONE Championship in 2023.
“Beyond thrilled. It’s a dream come true,” said an emotional Bomogao after the fight, still trying to grasp the magnitude of her performance.
A clean strike that made an impact
The winning blow appeared so fluid and precise that it seemed like something practiced repeatedly in camp—but Bomogao said it was pure instinct.
“I wasn’t specifically targeting the body,” she explained. “The gameplan was to target everything—head, body, legs. I must deal every strike with power. I saw an opportunity for a clean shot, and I took it.”
The win not only cements her place in the promotion’s growing roster of elite Muay Thai athletes but also marks her as one of the Philippines’ brightest female combat sports prospects.
