Capital1 Solar Spikers secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Rookie Draft. For co-owner Milka Romero, it was a moment that redefined the young franchise’s journey.

Romero described the top selection as “the hope of a thousand dreams” and the key to building a future fans can believe in. With only a 30-percent chance of winning the lottery, the victory sent the Romero family into celebration.

Romero Eyes Belen as Symbol of a New Era

National University superstar Bella Belen is reportedly at the top of Capital1’s shortlist for the No. 1 spot. However, Romero emphasized that the team is prioritizing its long-term needs over hype or popularity.

Belen has not yet confirmed whether she will stay in the Philippines or pursue a career overseas. Still, her availability makes her a tantalizing option for the rebuilding Solar Spikers.

Romero said the choice will reflect their commitment to long-term development and not just immediate impact. She also stressed the importance of aligning the pick with the management’s long-term plans and vision.

Capital1’s Young Core Prepares for a Leap Forward

In 2024, Capital1 drafted Leila Cruz at No. 2 overall, followed by Roma Mae Doromal and Jenya Torres in later rounds. The young team climbed from an 11th-place debut to a playoff appearance in the Reinforced Conference.

Cruz led the team in scoring in the recent All-Filipino Conference with 140 points, despite a return to 11th place overall. Romero believes this year’s No. 1 pick could be the missing piece that launches the Solar Spikers to contender status.

She said the goal is to build a complete franchise, not just rely on one player to change the team’s fortunes. With the draft approaching, Capital1 is preparing to define its identity in the professional volleyball scene for years to come.
