Korean golfer Songgyu Yoo surged into the lead at the Kolon Korea Open after a composed second-round 67 on the punishing Dunes Course. He now holds a two-shot advantage at seven-under over Thailand’s Poom Saksansin heading into the weekend.

The 28-year-old made five birdies and a lone bogey on a layout many players described as Major-level in difficulty. The Dunes Course, debuting in the national open, features tight fairways, treacherous greens, and dramatic elevation changes.

Dunes Course Delivers Brutal Test

Yoo credited past Monday qualifying appearances at the venue for his calm performance under pressure. He focused on hitting fairways, playing conservatively, and preparing for long putts when he missed ideal approach lines.

Thailand’s Poom Saksansin stayed within striking distance after a 68 that included seven birdies and four bogeys. Despite ongoing swing changes, Poom found momentum on the back nine and felt confident heading into the weekend.

Sadom Kaewkanjana, also from Thailand, sits just one stroke behind Poom after a steady 69. Korean qualifier Yujun Jung, the surprise day one leader, slipped back after a second-round 76 but remains six shots off the pace.

Chasers Close In Behind Yoo

Australian Jed Morgan carded a 72 and is tied with Korean Giwhan Kim at three-under overall. Morgan, who barely kept his Asian Tour card last year, is making the most of his improved form in 2025.

Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent trails by one more stroke and seeks a rare feat—qualifying for two Majors in the same week. He earned a U.S. Open berth on Monday and could secure a ticket to Royal Portrush if he wins on Sunday.

Doyeob Mun produced the round of the day with a 66 that included an ace on the par-three eighth. He capped his stellar day by holing a chip on the 18th green for birdie, finishing even par and tied for 16th.

Richard T. Lee made his 22nd consecutive Asian Tour cut with a 71, maintaining a streak that dates back to October 2023. The cut line was set at plus four, and Lee’s consistency remains one of the most impressive stories of the season.
