The boats are fierce, the drums are loud, and the energy is electric—the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2025 is back in full force, bringing one of Asia’s most iconic summer celebrations to the heart of the city. From 31 May to 8 June, Victoria Harbour will come alive with races, cultural displays, and waterfront festivities, drawing locals and international visitors alike.
At the center of the action is the 2025 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, co-organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association. Taking place on 7–8 June along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, this high-energy event will feature over 190 elite teams from 12 countries and regions—including debut teams from Qatar and Egypt—paddling it out against the city’s legendary skyline.

Global Competition and Local Culture Collide
The iconic Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade transforms each year into a festive racing arena. Spectators can cheer from shaded viewing zones and snap dramatic action shots of the dragon boats as they race across Victoria Harbour. With free admission, locals and tourists alike can soak up the excitement while enjoying a wide variety of on-site entertainment.
Adding an extra layer of excitement this year are pop-up appearances by Cirque du Soleil performers and a vibrant Beer Garden at Urban Council Centenary Garden, offering icy refreshments to beat the summer heat.
9 Days and Nights of Waterfront Fun
To build momentum ahead of race weekend, HKTB is hosting nine straight days of festivities from 31 May to 8 June at the Avenue of Stars. Daily from 1 PM to 10 PM, guests can enjoy:
-
Icy drinks and summer sweets
-
Street food stalls and cultural snacks
-
Instagram-worthy photo zones
-
Ocean Park Hong Kong’s “Panda Friends” displays, featuring giant pandas An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying, Le Le, and twin cubs Elder Sister and Little Brother
-

Celebrating Intangible Cultural Heritage
More than a high-speed spectacle, the Dragon Boat Festival is a celebration of deep cultural significance. Recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity, the festival coincides with the launch of Hong Kong ICH Month 2025.
Starting 9 June, visitors can join guided tours exploring traditional crafts, including heritage skills like bamboo steamer-making and other artisanal techniques. Tour sign-ups will be available at the Hong Kong International Airport Visitor Centre and Kowloon Visitor Centre, or online via the Hong Kong ICH Month 2025 website.
Whether you come for the thrilling races, waterfront beer gardens, or authentic cultural experiences, Hong Kong is ready to welcome you this summer with open arms and a full events calendar.
