PVL Press Corps Awards: Soyud, Eroa, and Saet among top honorees

Eli Soyud, Alyssa Eroa, and Chie Saet will headline the first-ever Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night on May 28 at Novotel Manila. The trio earned top distinctions for their performances in the last three conferences of the country’s only women’s pro volleyball league.

Soyud will take home the Most Improved Player award after an impressive showing for the Akari Chargers. The 5-foot-10 spiker rose to the occasion following import Oly Okaro’s departure, helping Akari secure bronze in the All-Filipino Conference and silver in the Reinforced tilt.

She delivered her finest performance in the AFC semifinals, scoring a career-high 34 points in a five-set win over Choco Mucho. Backed by strong media and team votes, Soyud beat out Creamline’s Bernadeth Pons and Bea De Leon with a combined 10.2 vote tally.

Alyssa Eroa, who returned to the PVL after a three-year break, will be recognized as the Comeback Player of the Year. Despite a winless Reinforced Conference campaign, she stood out for Galeries Tower and won Best Libero, then helped lead the squad to the AFC quarterfinals.

Eroa edged ZUS Coffee’s Jovelyn Gonzaga with 8.8 total votes, bolstered by 7.2 media tallies despite receiving just 1.6 from teams. Her emotional journey from near retirement to PVL star became one of the league’s most inspiring stories in 2024.

Chie Saet completes the elite trio as the recipient of the Miss Quality Minutes award. The 40-year-old Petro Gazz veteran played a pivotal role in the Angels’ AFC title run, stepping up as the team’s lead playmaker during the playoffs.

Saet earned 14.4 total votes, including 8.4 from media and 6.0 from PVL teams, outshining finalists Judith Abil of Cignal and Royse Tubino of Choco Mucho. Her savvy and steady hand at the helm proved critical in crunch time.

Presented by Arena Plus and Pilipinas Live, the awards night will honor individual excellence and resilience in a league that continues to grow in competitiveness and fan support.
