DILG supports revival of Tour of Luzon after years of absence

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has formally expressed its support for the long-awaited return of the Tour of Luzon, which kicks off on Thursday, April 24, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, after years of hiatus.

DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla emphasized the value of reviving the prestigious cycling event in a memorandum addressed to all concerned local government units (LGUs). “The revival of this very popular cycling event in the country can foster sports consciousness capable of promoting camaraderie and the spirit of competitiveness among our people,” Remulla stated.

The DILG has instructed LGUs across the route to ensure the event’s safe and smooth conduct. Remulla is expected to attend the official launch of the event, dubbed “The Great Revival”, on the afternoon of April 23, along with Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, president of both the Philippine Olympic Committee and the race’s sanctioning body, PhilCycling.

“We are grateful for this support from Secretary Jonvic because the Tour of Luzon isn’t just about cycling and sports, the LGUs are very much involved in this event,” said Patrick “Pató” Gregorio, chairman of event organizer DuckWorld PH.

The 2025 edition is presented by the MVP Group’s Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), with Arrey Perez, the corporation’s Chief Regulatory Officer, serving as executive director. The race winner will receive P500,000, while the overall team champion will bag P1 million in prize money.

Spanning 1,074.90 kilometers, the race will traverse more than 60 cities and municipalities across seven provinces in Northern and Central Luzon: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and a special segment in New Clark City, where an Executive Race will be staged on April 27.

A total of 17 teams featuring 119 riders will participate. The local contingents include top teams such as 7-Eleven Cliqq Roadbike Philippines, Go For Gold Philippines, Victoria Sports Pro Cycling Team, and Philippines Under-23–Tom N Toms Coffee, among others.

Also joining are foreign squads CCN Factory HK (Hong Kong), Malaysia Pro Cycling, Bryton Racing Team (Taiwan), and Gapyeong Cycling Team (South Korea).

Tour of Luzon 2025 Stages:

  • Stage 1 (April 24): Paoay-Paoay – 190.70 km

  • Stage 2: Paoay-Vigan (Team Time Trial) – 68.39 km

  • Stage 3: Vigan-San Juan – 130.33 km

  • Stage 4: Agoo-Clark – 162.97 km

  • Stage 5: Clark-Clark via New Clark City – 166.65 km

  • Stage 6: Clark-Lingayen – 168.19 km

  • Stage 7: Labrador-Lingayen (Individual Time Trial) – 15.14 km

  • Stage 8 (Queen Stage): Lingayen to Scout Hill, Baguio – 172.53 km

The event is also supported by Meralco, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Maynilad, Smart, PLDT, Landco Pacific Corporation, mWell, and Megaworld.
