Tour of Luzon returns with foreign teams in The Great Revival

The Tour of Luzon was intended to revive multi-stage road racing in the Philippines, but its impact surged far beyond expectations, drawing participation from four foreign teams alongside 12 continental and domestic clubs for the eight-stage competition fittingly dubbed “The Great Revival.”

Momentum for the event grew rapidly after news of its staging spread during the 2025 Asian Cycling Confederation Road Championships in Thailand last February.

“We’re not even on the international calendar of the UCI [International Cycling Union] yet, but enthusiasm and interest about the Tour of Luzon are as feverish as they are here at home,” said Patrick “Pató” Gregorio, president of DuckWorld PH, which is organizing the event presented by the MVP Group’s Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, with Chief Regulatory Officer Arrey Perez at the helm.

Foreign teams joining the April 24 opener in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, include Hong Kong’s CCN Factory HK, Malaysia Pro Cycling, Taiwan’s Bryton Racing Team, and the Gapyeong Cycling Team of South Korea.

“They are just four of several foreign teams which asked to be invited to the Tour,” said Perez. “For the Tour to be just revived, its proof that the label, the race itself, indeed makes it a national treasure.”

These teams will face off against Philippine UCI continental squads 7-Eleven Cliqq Roadbike Philippines, Standard Insurance Philippines, Go For Gold Philippines, and Victoria Sports Pro Cycling Team in the PhilCycling-sanctioned race led by POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

The field also includes the Philippines National Under-23-Tom N Toms Coffee squad and active local clubs such as Excellent Noodles, DReyna Orion Cement, Dandez T-Prime Cycling Team, Exodus Army, MPT Drive Hub Cycling Team, 1 Team Visayas, One Cycling Mindanao, and Team Pangasinan.

The Philippines was part of the UCI calendar for a decade through Le Tour de Filipinas, a legacy of the late Air21 founder Alberto “Bert” Lina, regarded as the godfather of Philippine cycling.

The eight-stage race begins with a Paoay-Paoay loop (Stage 1), followed by a team time trial from Paoay to Vigan (Stage 2), Vigan to San Juan (Stage 3), Agoo to Clark (Stage 4), Clark to New Clark City and back (Stage 5), Clark to Lingayen (Stage 6), a Labrador-Lingayen individual time trial (Stage 7), and a climactic Queen Stage from Lingayen to Scout Hill inside Camp John Hay in Baguio City (Stage 8).

The team champion will receive a cash prize of P1 million, while the individual champion will take home P500,000.

The Tour has forged strong partnerships with Cardinal Santos Medical Center (Official Medical Partner), GO21 (Official Logistics Partner), Dong Feng Motors (Official Vehicle Partner), Victory Liner, DOOH, PSSLAI, Unilab, Huawei, Toyota, MVP Group/We Are Sports, and Pilipinas Live.
