Higo, Alves clash in bantamweight headliner at PFL World Tournament 2

The 2025 PFL World Tournament continues Friday, April 11, with its second First Round event live from Universal Studios Florida. After Thursday’s official weigh-ins, fighters from the Bantamweight and Women’s Flyweight divisions are now locked in and ready to battle for spots in the Semifinals of their respective brackets.

Main Event: Higo vs. Alves After Last-Minute Change

The night’s headliner features a Bantamweight First Round clash between former Bellator title challenger Leandro Higo (23-6) and Brazil’s Marcirley Alves (12-4), who steps in on short notice to replace Josh Rettinghouse after the latter failed to make weight. Higo came in at 135.6 lbs, while Alves hit the division limit at 136.0 lbs.

Carmouche Seeks Another Title Run

In the co-main event, reigning Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion Liz Carmouche (22-8) will face Brazil’s Ilara Joanne (12-9) in a compelling Flyweight First Round showdown. Carmouche weighed in at 126.0 lbs, while Joanne came in slightly lighter at 124.8 lbs. The winner earns a direct path to the semifinals, adding high stakes to this matchup between veteran competitors.

Main Card Round-Outs and Weight Drama

Also on the main card, Italy’s Francesco Nuzzi (10-1) will meet Mexico’s Mando Gutierrez (10-3) in a Bantamweight alternate bout. Both fighters made weight — 135.4 lbs for Nuzzi and 135.8 lbs for Gutierrez.

Kicking off the televised main card is a Bantamweight First Round fight between Kasum Kasumov (16-1) and American contender Justin Wetzell (10-2), who missed weight at 138.4 lbs, two and a half pounds over the limit. Kasumov came in at a perfect 136.0 lbs.

The early card kicks off at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT on ESPN+ and DAZN, featuring three key bouts in the Women’s Flyweight division and one Bantamweight showdown.

  • Former Bellator champion Juliana Velasquez (126.0 lbs) takes on Ukrainian rising star Ekaterina Shakalova (125.8 lbs).

  • Matheus Mattos (135.6 lbs) meets Jake Hadley (135.8 lbs) in an explosive Bantamweight pairing.

  • Japan’s Kana Watanabe (125.2 lbs) faces American grappling specialist Jena Bishop (125.6 lbs).

  • Kicking off the early card, undefeated Elora Dana (124.6 lbs) battles Russia’s Diana Avsaragova (125.4 lbs).
