The stage is set for an electrifying Spikers’ Turf Open Conference Finals as defending champion Cignal faces a surging Criss Cross squad in Game One of their best-of-three series on Wednesday, April 2, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
While Cignal has a history of championship dominance, this season’s battle could tell a different story. Criss Cross enters the 6 p.m. matchup with an unblemished record, having swept both the eliminations and semifinals while defeating the HD Spikers in all three of their previous meetings this conference.
However, Cignal boasts championship pedigree, having conquered Criss Cross in their last two finals showdowns.
Criss Cross Seeks Breakthrough Title
Ish Polvorosa, the steady hand at setter for Criss Cross, acknowledges that the team is still seen as the underdog but believes this is their best opportunity to finally overthrow the defending champions.
“There’s pressure on both sides, but I still see us as the underdogs. We didn’t win against them last year, so this is our chance to grab the championship, especially given how well we’ve played this conference,” said Polvorosa in Filipino.

With Polvorosa orchestrating the offense, reigning MVP Jude Garcia, along with Jaron Requinton, Nico Almendras, and Marck Espejo, will be key in leading Criss Cross to what could be a monumental victory.
“We have faith in each other and the courage to fight for the championship this time. We know Cignal won’t go down without a fight, so we’re preparing thoroughly for this battle,” Polvorosa added.
Cignal Banks on Experience
Despite their struggles against Criss Cross this season, Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor remains confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“We’re a champion team. A defending champion. So the team knows how important this finals series is,” said Clamor in Filipino. “We’re not dwelling on our previous losses. Our focus is on the finals and winning when it matters most.”
Cignal will rely on its battle-tested core, with Steven Rotter, Louie Ramirez, JP Bugaoan, Jau Umandal, and Owa Retamar expected to step up in this high-stakes matchup.
Savouge, VNS Battle for Bronze
Meanwhile, in the battle for third place, Savouge aims to reaffirm its dominance over VNS-Laticrete and secure a second consecutive bronze finish.
Mark Calado, Shawie Caritativo, and Giles Torres will lead Savouge’s charge, while CJ Segui, KC Culabat, and Rash Nursiddik spearhead VNS, setting the stage for another competitive showdown at 3:30 p.m.
With both the championship and podium finishes on the line, volleyball fans can expect an action-packed day of high-level play at the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference Finals.
