The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2025 kicked off its Main Draw with thrilling action at the OCBC Square in Singapore, as the first quarter-finalists were confirmed on March 28. Despite intense competition, China and New Zealand’s men’s teams, along with Japan’s women’s squad, delivered unbeaten performances to secure their spots in the knockout rounds.
China’s Men’s Team Makes a Statement
China entered the tournament with a revamped roster but wasted no time asserting dominance. They dismantled Chinese Taipei 21-10 in their opener, with Zhang Dianliang leading the way with seven points.
However, their biggest challenge came against India, who had been a standout team in the tournament. With the game tied at 19, Guo Hanyu drilled a clutch two-pointer to secure a dramatic 21-19 victory, cementing China’s position atop Pool B.
Joining China in the quarter-finals are New Zealand, who topped Pool D, and Qatar. The remaining teams will be determined in the final pool matches.

Japan’s Women’s Team Showcases Firepower
Japan’s women’s squad sent a strong message with a dominant 22-6 victory over host nation Singapore. Sharpshooter Fuyuko Takahashi was unstoppable, draining four three-pointers en route to a game-high 10 points.
Their next challenge was Vietnam, led by the talented Truong Twins. Japan’s defensive adjustments stifled Vietnam’s attack, and a combined 15 points from Fatoumanana Nishi and Yuki Noguchi secured a 17-10 victory.
Japan advances to the knockout rounds alongside China, the Republic of Korea, and Vietnam.
Standout Performers
Te Tuhi Lewis (New Zealand)
Lewis played a key role in New Zealand’s success, scoring 10 points in both their 21-15 win over Vietnam and their 17-15 nail-biter against Qatar. His ability to shoot from deep and draw fouls proved crucial.
Zhou Mengyun (China)
China’s women’s team thrived thanks to Zhou Mengyun’s scoring prowess. She put up seven points in their loss to New Zealand and followed it up with a 10-point effort in a 19-12 victory over Korea, securing the top spot in Pool C.
The final pool stage matches will determine the remaining quarter-finalists, with host nation Singapore’s men’s team facing tough challenges against Mongolia and Hong Kong in Pool A.
