Later in the day, the Filipinos outlasted Korea 21-17 in a thrilling contest, thanks to a 12-point explosion from Manday. The victory was crucial in their bid to advance to the Main Draw of the tournament.
“It feels really good. We executed our coach’s plays well and worked hard on both offense and defense. We need to improve our defense before facing India,” Manday said.
The Philippines will now battle India, with both teams holding undefeated records. The winner will advance to Pool B of the Main Draw alongside top-ranked teams.
Other unbeaten squads on Day 1 include Iran, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
What’s next for the Philippines?
The upcoming Philippines vs. India match is expected to be intense, as India has showcased strong perimeter shooting led by Harsh Dagar. The Filipinos will need to stay composed and improve their rebounding to secure a ticket to the next stage.
The Main Draw action begins on March 28, where the top teams will compete for regional supremacy and a chance to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup.
