Savouge, Criss Cross, and Cignal complete elimination round with strong finishes ahead of Spikers’ Turf semifinals

The 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference is down to its Final Four, with Savouge, Criss Cross, and Cignal all securing crucial wins on the last day of the double-round eliminations. With the semifinals set to begin on Sunday, March 23, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, these victories serve as a confidence booster for the contenders.

Savouge clinched a convincing 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of VNS-Laticrete, finishing the eliminations with a 6-4 record and securing the third seed.

The Spin Doctors broke away late in the third set after VNS committed costly errors, fueling a 4-0 run that put them in control. Mark Calado led the charge with 18 points, all from attacks, while Giles Torres added 11 markers and four blocks.

“Nagbigay ako ng playing time sa iba kasi that will be an opportunity for me na inaassess ko sila para pagdating sa pitpitan na laro, ready na ang lahat,” said Savouge head coach Sydney Calderon.

Despite the loss, VNS-Laticrete secured the fourth and final playoff spot, finishing the eliminations with a 3-7 record.

Criss Cross completes perfect 10-0 sweep

Even with their main rotation players sitting out, Criss Cross overpowered PGJC-Navy, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19, completing an undefeated 10-0 elimination round sweep.

Jude Garcia stepped up with 16 points, 11 receptions, and seven digs, while Chu Njigha delivered 14 points and five kill blocks. Geuel Asia, celebrating his birthday, orchestrated the offense with 14 excellent sets.

“This is a boost for us as a team because we completed the sweep. But we won’t stop learning and fighting in the upcoming games,” said Asia.

PGJC-Navy, missing key players, struggled throughout the conference and ended with a 1-9 record.

Cignal secures second seed after eliminating Alpha Insurance

Defending champions Cignal wrapped up their elimination campaign in style, overcoming a third-set stumble to defeat Alpha Insurance, 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20.

With starters on limited minutes, Vince Abrot and Martin Bugaoan took charge, scoring 15 and 12 points, respectively. Cignal’s 8-2 record earned them the second seed, setting up a highly anticipated semifinal clash against Savouge.

“At least nakikita namin na going to the semifinals, may mga bala pa kami,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor, praising his bench players.

With the loss, Alpha Insurance was eliminated, finishing at 2-8 in their Spikers’ Turf debut.

Final Four matchups

The round-robin semifinals begin Sunday, featuring these key matchups:

  • Criss Cross vs. VNS-Laticrete
  • Cignal vs. Savouge

The top two teams at the end of the round-robin will advance to the best-of-three Finals.
