Cignal quickly recovered from its previous loss to Criss Cross, overpowering VNS-Laticrete 25-16, 25-15, 26-24 in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Despite cruising through the first two sets, the HD Spikers faced adversity in the third, trailing 17-21 before Nas Gwaza and Vince Abrot took charge to complete the comeback and seal the sweep.
Gwaza and Abrot step up in the clutch
With VNS threatening to extend the match, Gwaza and Abrot powered a crucial 5-0 run, shifting momentum in Cignal’s favor.
VNS’ CJ Segui and KC Culabat fought back, pushing the Griffins to match point, but Gwaza delivered back-to-back quick attacks and a clutch block, flipping the advantage to Cignal.

A costly net violation by VNS’ RK Medino handed the HD Spikers the win in just 1 hour and 20 minutes.
“The third set was really tight. I’m happy we were able to push through despite the fatigue from our hard training sessions,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor. “We always remind them that after all the sacrifices, there’s always something to reap in the end.”
