Ysa Jimenez delivered the best performance of her Premier Volleyball League (PVL) career, guiding Galeries Tower to a historic quarterfinals berth and earning PVL Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period of February 27 to March 1.
Jimenez led the Highrisers to a stunning 25-17, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19 upset over third-seeded Cignal last Thursday at the Philsports Arena, helping the team clinch its first-ever PVL quarterfinals appearance.

The former UST Tigress erupted for a career-high 23 points, converting 22-of-55 attack attempts, as she stepped up in the most crucial match of Galeries Tower’s season.
A Breakthrough Moment for Jimenez
After averaging just 10 points per game in the preliminary round, Jimenez rose to the occasion when it mattered most.
“Worth it lahat ng pagod,” said Jimenez. “Sobrang dami naming pinagdaanan, to the point na kinekwestyon na rin namin kung ano na bang nangyayari sa pinagpapaguran namin.”
Despite their struggles, Jimenez and the Highrisers kept their focus and played without pressure.
“Sabi lang po sa amin ni coach na no pressure ‘yung game na ‘to kasi wala namang mawawala. Confident kami kasi hindi kami nagkulang sa preparations,” she added.
Beating Out Elite Competition
Jimenez’s stellar showing saw her edge out other top contenders for the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award, including:
- Alyssa Eroa (Galeries Tower) – Defensive standout and top libero
- Brooke Van Sickle (Petro Gazz)
- Bea De Leon (Creamline)
- Sisi Rondina (Choco Mucho)
Jimenez’s leadership and offensive firepower helped Galeries Tower defeat Cignal for the first time since joining the PVL in 2023.
Gearing Up for the Quarterfinals
Now that the Highrisers have made it to the playoffs, they prepare for the best-of-three quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the Farm Fresh vs. Akari qualifying game.
Head coach Lerma Giron emphasized that making the quarterfinals is only the beginning.

“Kailangan namin panindigan ‘to. Alam namin na ang next level ay talagang very challenging,” Giron said. “Tiwala ako sa mga players at coaches. Kahit lumuha ulit kami ng dugo, nandito na kami, at ito naman ‘yung gusto namin. Kaya by God’s grace, paninindigan namin ‘to.”
With Jimenez leading the way, Galeries Tower is ready to fight for a deeper playoff run in the PVL.
