Prado Sweeps Women’s Elite Golds

Jermyn Prado showed no signs of slowing down as she dominated the Women’s Elite Road Race, securing her third gold medal in the PhilCycling National Championships for Road.

The 31-year-old veteran clocked 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 28.17 seconds in the 88-kilometer race, narrowly edging out Maritoni Krogg, who finished just a wheel behind to take silver. Kate Yasmin Aquino, now a mother, secured the bronze.

Prado’s sweep included victories in the Criterium event in Tagaytay and the Individual Time Trial (ITT) from Tuy to Nasugbu, proving her endurance and consistency.

“It’s all about training, dedication, and the heart to keep on cycling,” Prado said. “I’ve been relentless in training, but all these are because of the One above.”

Prado, a 2019 Southeast Asian Games ITT gold medalist, further cemented her status as one of the country’s premier cyclists.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Under-23 Road Race, Kim Bonilla added another gold to her ITT victory, clocking 2:36:38.80. Wenizah Claire Vinoya took silver, finishing 42 seconds behind, while Princess Jamkyna claimed bronze, 46 seconds back.

Felipe Wins Men’s Elite Road Race

At 35 years old, Marcelo Felipe remains one of the country’s top road cyclists, claiming the Men’s Elite Road Race gold medal in a hard-fought battle.

Felipe completed the 215-kilometer course in 5 hours, 2 minutes, and 25.49 seconds, narrowly beating Jericho Lucero by just two seconds, while Jeremy Lizardo finished another two seconds back to take bronze.

“We broke loose in the last 20 kilometers, and seeing that no one else made a chase, we worked hard until the finish,” Felipe said.

Felipe, a national team mainstay, continues to prove his mettle, clocking an average speed of 43 kph to claim the championship.

The PhilCycling National Championships for Road were presented by the MVP Sports Foundation and Standard Insurance and organized by PhilCycling, led by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino. The event also received support from Tagaytay City, Excellent Noodles, and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
