Cool Smashers, Angels to represent PH in AVC Champions League

The AVC Women’s Champions League will feature two of the Philippines’ top volleyball teams, with Creamline Cool Smashers and Petro Gazz Angels set to compete against Asia’s best clubs from April 20 to 27 at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Initially, only the PVL champion was slated to represent the country. However, as the host nation, the Philippines is allowed to field two teams, giving both powerhouse squads a chance to test their mettle against international competition.

The event, formerly known as the Asian Club Championship, was originally scheduled in South Korea and later moved to Vietnam before ultimately being awarded to the Philippines due to time constraints.

Elite Teams Ready for Battle

Both Creamline and Petro Gazz dominated the PVL preliminaries, finishing with identical 10-1 records, proving their strength in local competition.

  • Creamline Cool Smashers
Led by Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Bernadeth Pons, Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao, and setter Kyle Negrito, Creamline boasts one of the most well-rounded and experienced rosters in the region. Their chemistry, offensive firepower, and international experience will be key assets in their AVC campaign.

  • Petro Gazz Angels
The Angels will be powered by Filipino-American stars Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips. However, since both are registered under USA Volleyball, they will count as reinforcements, leaving Petro Gazz with one more import slot to fill. The addition of a high-caliber foreign player could significantly strengthen their title hopes.

With the tournament draw set for March 12 in Bangkok, Thailand, both teams are racing to finalize their rosters before the competition begins.

“The AVC called us and said they need the teams right away because of the draw,” said PVL president and PNVF vice president Ricky Palou.

While it remains uncertain if Creamline will use all three import slots, Petro Gazz is already strategizing how to maximize its reinforcement choices alongside its strong local core.

Philippines Ready to Shine on International Stage

With 12 elite teams from across Asia competing in the AVC Women’s Champions League, the tournament presents a golden opportunity for Creamline and Petro Gazz to showcase Philippine volleyball on an international stage.

As the PVL and PNVF take charge of organizing the event, all eyes will be on the country’s top teams as they go head-to-head with Asia’s best clubs.

With strong rosters, elite-level preparation, and home-court advantage, both teams aim to make deep runs in the competition and prove that Philippine volleyball belongs among the continent’s finest.
