Cignal, Criss Cross eye third-straight win in Spikers’ Turf Open Conference

Cignal and Criss Cross seek to continue their dominant runs as they take on separate rivals Wednesday, February 26, in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Both teams carry 2-0 records heading into their respective matchups, with the HD Spikers battling the winless VNS-Laticrete Griffins at 6 p.m. and the King Crunchers taking on PGJC-Navy Sealions at 3:30 p.m.

Riding on straight-set victories over Alpha Insurance and Savouge, Cignal is expected to rely on the explosive duo of Jau Umandal and Steven Rotter, both of whom have been instrumental in the team’s early success in the tournament.

“Our preparations remain the same for every team – we study them thoroughly and give our best effort,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor in Filipino. “It’s crucial to secure early wins to qualify for the semifinals.”

Despite their struggles, VNS showed resilience in its previous match, rallying from a two-set deficit against Navy before falling short in a tight Set 5. Young standouts CJ Segui and RK Medino, who scored 26 and 24 points, respectively, will once again lead the charge in hopes of securing their first victory.

Criss Cross vs. PGJC-Navy

Criss Cross, fresh off a pair of strong wins, aims to maintain its momentum against a depleted PGJC-Navy squad. The King Crunchers will once again turn to Jaron Requinton and Kim Malabunga, both of whom have provided steady performances to keep the team undefeated.

Navy, on the other hand, will be banking on Greg Dolor and John Ashley Jacob to carry the scoring load, especially with the status of top hitter Joeven Dela Vega still uncertain for today’s match.

Savouge vs. Alpha Insurance

Kicking off the triple-header at 1 p.m., Savouge and Alpha Insurance will battle for their second win in three games. The Spin Doctors are eager to bounce back and strengthen their campaign in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.

With Cignal and Criss Cross in peak form, all eyes will be on whether their winning streaks continue—or if their opponents can pull off an upset.
