The Cignal HD Spikers continue their impressive run in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, securing a commanding four-set victory over ZUS Coffee, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 25-11, on Thursday (February 13) night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Leading the charge was rookie sensation Ishie Lalongisip, who erupted for a career-high 20 points, built on 18 powerful attacks and two service aces. She also contributed five excellent receptions, showcasing her all-around game and proving she is a force to be reckoned with.

Cignal’s Relentless Attack Overwhelms ZUS Coffee

After taking control in the first two sets, the HD Spikers momentarily stumbled in the third, allowing the Thunderbelles to capitalize. But instead of faltering, Cignal came back with a vengeance in the fourth, unleashing a devastating 11-2 run to seal the victory in just under two hours.

Veteran middle blocker Jackie Acuña stepped up big, tallying 17 points, including six kill blocks that disrupted ZUS Coffee’s rhythm. Vanie Gandler was equally impressive, contributing 14 markers off 12 attacks, an ace, and a block.

Setter Gel Cayuna orchestrated Cignal’s offense with 17 excellent sets while chipping in eight points, proving to be the team’s steady playmaker. Meanwhile, libero Dawn Catindig anchored the defense, registering 24 excellent digs to stifle ZUS Coffee’s offensive threats.

Lalongisip’s Mindset: Work Hard, Win Harder

Despite her breakout performance, Lalongisip remains focused on growth and consistency.

“I always remind myself to apply what we do in training. I don’t want to waste the hard work and sacrifices of my teammates,” said Lalongisip. “I draw strength from them because I see how much effort they put in every single day.”

Her relentless drive and hunger for improvement are quickly making her one of the most exciting young players in the league.

Cignal’s Playoff Push Continues

With this victory, Cignal improves to a 7-3 record, tying Choco Mucho for third place in the standings. They now set their sights on extending their winning streak against Akari on Tuesday, February 20, at 4:00 PM at Philsports Arena.

Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee finds itself struggling, dropping to 4-6 and falling into an eighth-place tie with Farm Fresh. Despite solid performances from Jovelyn Gonzaga (14 points, 8 excellent receptions), Chai Troncoso (11 points, 12 digs), and top overall pick Thea Gagate (9 points), the Thunderbelles must regroup quickly before facing PLDT on February 22 in Passi, Iloilo.

As the PVL season heats up, fans can expect more high-stakes battles and rising stars to emerge. Will Lalongisip and Cignal continue their dominance, or will challengers rise to the occasion?
