FIBA Asia revamps BCL Asia-East format: Exciting new era for regional club basketball

The FIBA Regional Office-Asia has announced an exciting new competition format for the rebranded BCL Asia-East, showcasing top basketball clubs from the SEABA and East Asia sub-zones under the FIBA Asia umbrella.

The competition will feature eight powerhouse teams, including national champions and runners-up from Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei. Over six windows, each club will host one round in their respective countries, offering fans an engaging basketball experience on home soil.

Confirmed Teams for BCL Asia-East:

  • Chinese Taipei: New Taipei Kings, Taoyuan Pauian Pilots
  • Mongolia: Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos, Bishrelt Metal
  • Indonesia: Pelita Jaya Basketball
  • Malaysia: NS Matrix Deers
  • Thailand: Hi-Tech Basketball Club
  • Singapore: Adroit Club

The Preliminary Round will divide the eight teams into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the Final Four. The semi-finals and finals will be held in a single city. The top two teams from this stage will qualify for the prestigious BCL Asia, bringing them closer to the international basketball spotlight.

FIBA Executive Director-Asia expressed enthusiasm about the revamped format, emphasizing its potential to increase competitive intensity and offer promotional opportunities for clubs. “The East and Southeast Asia regions have long been celebrated for their passionate and knowledgeable basketball fans,” he said.

The draw for the Preliminary Round will take place on January 27 at 9 a.m. Beirut time. Fans can expect thrilling matchups as the road to BCL Asia begins.
